EODT
These are pictures of an Explosive Ordinance Demolition Team (EODT) controlled demolition. Basically as their name states they destroy unexploded ordinance. There are literally tons and tons of munitions left over by the former regime. The EODT takes them, puts them in a really big hole outside the base, covers them with dirt, lights one of those little M60 fuses, and runs really really fast. Well that's probably not exactly how it happens but good enough for government work. To give you some idea how much is leftover they do this at least once a week for our base alone. That's not to say that all the ordinance is from our base, but probably (I'm just guessing) it's from caches near by. They have a limit on how much they can detonate at once, because they don't want to do too much and like the Big Bad Wolf blow our houses down. It's never happened here, but I've heard of time when they accidentally put the munitions to be destroyed on top of and unknown weapons cache. On one particular time they lit the fuse and drove about seven miles away before it exploded and blew the windshields out of the hummers. They were demolishing about 2 tons of munitions, but it was sitting on a cache of an estimated 3 tons. Rumor has it that it created a mile high mushroom cloud and scattered shrapnel for mile around.
These are some of the more tame and "controlled" controlled explosions that happen at our base. Nothing fancy, just a nice plume of smoke on the other side of the ridge. Enjoy.
